Leeds’ England hopefuls had a big impact on Sunday afternoon as they leap-frogged Salford Red Devils into second in Super League after a 50-24 win at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Winger Ryan Hall, who has scored 32 tries in 32 appearances for England, got Leeds’ first try of the afternoon after they trailed early on against the Red Devils.
Kallum Watkins was also on the scoresheet for Leeds, although there was some concern for the centre as he took a heavy knock to the head from Junior Sau, which saw the Salford man sin-binned. He was assessed by the Leeds medical team and did not return to the field but revealed he was feeling ok in a post-match interview with Leeds’ website.
Tom Briscoe, who lost his spot in the latest Elite Performance Squad, scored two tries for Leeds, whilst forward Stevie Ward also featured in the fixture.
Joe Burgess bagged a hat-trick as Wigan Warriors collected a crucial 32-10 victory over Catalans Dragons, which ensured their spot in the Super 8s.
Stand-off George Williams was also on the scoresheet for Wigan, as well as getting his 25th assist of the Super League season as he created Burgess’ opener.
Back-row John Bateman continued his impressive return from injury, with one assist, 36 tackles, three tackle bursts and six offloads.
Liam Farrell was the Warriors’ top tackler with 40 in total on Saturday, whilst Sam Tomkins, not currently in the EPS, scored a try.
Mark Percival produced another inspired performance to guide St Helens to a crucial 19-12 win over Hull FC on Friday, to keep them within touching distance on the top four.
The centre scored two tries, the second a brilliant take and finish, as well as kicking three goals for Saints.
Hooker James Roby scored one try and made 33 tackles, whilst prop Alex Walmsley made 142 metres, after starting from the bench.
Stefan Ratchford assisted all four of Tom Lineham's tries, plus one more as Warrington Wolves cruised to a 50-10 win over fellow struggles Leigh Centurions. The full-back also tallied six goals and made 129 metres.
Prop Chris Hill made 126 metres whilst hooker Daryl Clark made 29 tackles on Friday.
Free-scoring Jermaine McGillvary scored another two tries as a resurgent Huddersfield Giants defeated Widnes Vikings 40-0. The dangerous winger, who has scored eight tries in his last six games, also made 182 metres in the win.
On Thursday night, Luke Gale’s drop goal saw leaders Castleford Tigers eke out a 25-24 victory over local Rivals Wakefield Trinity, their tenth in a row in Super League.
Winger Greg Eden scored his 35th try in all competitions in the win, a 90 metre dash to the line after Trinity had spilt the ball.
Forward Mike McMeeken celebrated his new Castleford contract with a try on Thursday, whilst Greg Minikin got one assist.
