Normanton Knights coach Paul Seal is eager to showcase the quality in the community game when his side take on Championship outfit Rochdale Hornets at the LD Nutrition Stadium on Saturday, March 17 (KO 2.00pm) in the fourth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.
The fixture has been selected as the live streamed game on the BBC Sport website for this round and Seal considers the tie a fitting reward for the team’s hard work so far this season.
“We won promotion to the National Conference League Premier Division last year and we’ve had a really strong pre-season too,” he said. “The tie in this round is great for the team for the effort they’ve put in and it’s an opportunity for them to play a different level of rugby against professionals.”
“We wanted to play a Championship side, the top level you can play at this stage of the competition and we’ve managed to get that, so we’re really looking forward to it.”
“We’re taking the game seriously and hoping to put up a good account of ourselves, not just turning up to make a day of it. We’re actually going there with a serious attitude to try and cause an upset.”
The West Yorkshire side have defeated the Royal Navy, Rochdale Mayfield and Batley Boys to reach this stage of Challenge Cup and Seal has only praise for the competition and the opportunities it provides for the community game.
“It’s huge for grassroots Rugby League, not just for our club but for all the amateur teams involved,” he continued. “We all look forward to the draw come January and try to get as far as we can.
“The Challenge Cup is different from any other competition, it gives us the opportunity to showcase our talent at a higher level and everyone looks forward to being a part of that.
“I think it’s great the BBC are covering these games and have chosen ours as well, hopefully they’ll have seen there’s a potential there for it to be quite a good game. It’s publicity for the club and for a town like ours this weekend’s game is great.”
