Club of the Week | Haydock

A heroic showing from the record breakers in the fourth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

Haydock are this week's rugby-league.com Club of the Week, after they put in a stirring performance against Oldham from the Kingstone Press Championship.

The Yickers, North West Men's League champions, sit 71 places below Oldham and are the lowest-ranked team ever to make the fourth round of the Challenge Cup.

Despite their status as huge underdogs, they enjoyed a stunning start as unconverted tries from Jordan Gibson and Dean Dollin put them 8-0 up away from home, to the delight of their huge travelling support...

Though Oldham did turn the tide either side of half time, with Richard Lepori, Michael Ward, George Tyson, Danny Grimshaw, Joe Burke, Kieran Gill and Adam Clay all going over, the Yickers did have the final say as Steve Jones stormed over on the final hooter.

The game was the Yickers' first away defeat since August

Over 23,000 people watched the game on the BBC Sport website

And Oldham boss Scott Naylor had nothing but praise for Haydock after the match.

While Haydock captain Jordan Gibson was proud of his side's record-breaking efforts...

Haydock are one of the fastest-growing clubs in the north west, hosting teams from under 5s, 7s, 8s, 11s and 13s, as well as their record-breaking Open Age side.

They are currently on the lookout for new players at all levels. Find out more about the club on Facebook or Twitter.
