Ladbrokes Challenge Cup | second round wrap-up

Siddal score 34 unanswered points to win Ladbrokes Challenge Cup second round fcous game

Siddal produced a stunning second-half comeback to trump Pilkington Recs 34-10 in front of the BBC Sport cameras in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup second round focus game.

Trailing 10-0 at half time on Recs' new 4G surface after tries from Jake Hodson and Jonathan Frodsham, plus a Kyran Knapper penalty goal, the men from Halifax needed to turn the tide.

With Head Coach Gareth Greenwood’s 'not very nice', according to the man himself, words still ringing in their ears, captain Shaun Garrod and co. set about racking up the points.

Tom Garratt set the tone by barging over shortly after the restart, before Gareth Blackburn, who kicked five goals, produced a stunning offload to set Freddie Walker up for an equalising score.

Iain Davies then rumbled through beneath the posts before Blackburn finished off a piece of Garrod magic in midfield.

Garrod, who picked up the Man of the Match award, then scored himself before Joe Martin capped off a faultless second-half display for the visitors with the final try of the game.

Wests Warriors – the shock of round two?

Wests Warriors stole the round two headlines with a shock 26-0 win at Featherstone Lions.

The London Men's League champions, only founded in 2014, came into the game as big underdogs having finished 31 places and three divisions below their NCL Division 1 hosts in 2016, but tries from David Dyer (2), Jarred Bassett, Travis Robertson and Adam Wilson helped them to a memorable win.

Haydock are at it again!

North West Men's League champions Haydock are into round three after an impressive 30-20 win over BARLA National Cup winners Thornhill Trojans on home turf.

The Yickers stunned Wath Brow Hornets 17-4 in round one and are now one of three eighth division sides in the third round draw.

Fryston make it through

Catleford-based Fryston, champions of the winter Pennine League, are the third eighth-division side in the the third round draw after a comprehensive 16-40 win at London Skolars' New River Stadium.

The Warriors were 24-6 up by half time and eased home in the second period despite tries in either half from Ollie Bloom and Todd Peut, plus two Phil Lyon goals for the hosts, who beat Bridgend Blue Bulls 116-0 in round one.

Golden Point drama in Cumbria!

Rochdale Mayfield, the 2016 Challenge Trophy winners, travelled to Cumbrian side Kells and pulled off a dramatic 16-14 win after extra time.

Kells led 6-4 at half time before Mayfield edged back into the game to draw level at 14-all when the full time whistle blew, before Mayfield kicked a penalty goal from in front of the posts to win it.

Wigan St Pats, winners at Leigh Miners Rangers in front of the BBC Sport cameras in round one, were felled 28-18 by Egremont Rangers on home turf.

A fast start saw St Pats lead 10-6 after just 15 minutes and they led 14-12 at the break, but could only score one further try as The Mont sealed their progress to the third round with three second-half scores.

Finally, Myton Warriors beat York Acorn 18-4 at home.

Hull-based Myton were promoted to the NCL's Premier Division last season and won a thriller 38-34 against the Navy in Portsmouth in round one.

They led 6-4 after 20 minutes before running in two more converted tries ahead of the half time whistle.

No further points were scored in the second period as York Acorn's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup journey came to an end.

And West Hull's proposed home tie with Thatto Heath Crusaders fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.
