Hull FC & Hull KR help launch 2016 Hull and District Youth Rugby League season

Hull FC & Hull KR help launch 2016 Hull and District Youth Rugby League season

Stars from Hull FC and Hull KR were in attendance as the 2016 Hull and District Youth Rugby League season launch event took place at Hull University on Monday 21 March.

League Chairman Alan Parker and Secretary Carol Bailey welcomed Lee Radford, Danny Houghton and Jamie Shaul from Hull FC, with Kieron Dixon and John Boudebza going along from Hull KR.

Commenting on the launch, FC Head Coach Lee Radford, who began his career at East Hull before breaking into the professional game, said: "Now, more than ever, the Hull and District League needs to be as busy as possible, with two professional clubs in the city that need players coming through from the community game.

"There is a lot of local talent in Hull and, if it wasn’t for the good work that Carol Bailey, Alan Parker and the rest of the volunteers put in, we wouldn’t have a production line. We, as clubs, are prepared to do anything we can to support the growth of the League.

"Without volunteers like Carol and her Committee, or Club Officials, coaching staff and First Aiders, there would be no community Rugby League in Hull."

Secretary Carol Bailey added: "Lee is a fantastic ambassador for our game in Hull with him being a local lad having played the game in the Hull Youth League.

"It’s great to have the support of both professional clubs.

"Both Hull FC and Hull KR do a lot for our League during the season, from sending players along to games and presentations, to hosting Primary Rugby League Festivals.

"I'd like to extend a big thank you to the guys at Rovers who have been fantastic with the Primary League, hosting games for 6’s & 7’s at the Lightstream Stadium for the first time."

"I would urge anyone who in interested in playing Rugby League from the age of 6 to 18, knows someone who is, or just wants to help out as a volunteer, to get in touch."

The young players present at the launch ranged from the age of six to 15 and represented Beverley Braves, Cottingham Tigers, East Hull, Holderness Vikings, Hull All Blacks, Hull Dockers, Hull Isberg, Hull Victoria, Hull Wyke, Lambwath Lions, Myton Warriors, Skirlaugh Bulls and West Hull, alongside Skirlaugh product Jamie Shaul and former East Hull youth player Danny Houghton.

The Hull and Dsitrict Youh league is currently on the lookout for new players and volunteers. For more information on how to get involved, contact League Secretary Carol Bailey at or call 07725170544 for your nearest Club.
