Vikings to play Hornets in fifth round

First Utility Super League leaders draw Kingstone Press League 1 side Rochdale Hornets in the fifth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.


First Utility Super League’s leading team, Widnes Vikings, were drawn away to Rochdale Hornets this evening (Tuesday March 22) in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fifth round draw.

Broadcast live on the BBC Sport website and BBC Red Button, the draw was conducted by Wigan Warriors full-back Sam Tomkins and Warrington Wolves captain Chris Hill. Tomkins has lifted the Challenge Cup twice with the Warriors in 2011 and 2013. Hill was victorious with the Wolves at Wembley in his debut season in 2012.

Three other Super League sides entered the draw at this stage – currently sitting sixth in the league, Salford Red Devils were drawn away to Hunslet Hawks. Last year’s finalists Hull Kingston Rovers will host Oldham at the KC Lighstream Stadium. Wakefield Trinity Wildcats will play 1998 winners Sheffield Eagles at home.

The lowest ranked team still left in the draw, Lock Lane from the National Conference League, will make the trip to Halifax as they aim to make it through to next stage and keep the dream of reaching the final alive.
