Welsh champions Glantaf got their national campaign underway with an emphatic 62-6 victory over London/SE champions Howard of Effingham at Maidenhead.
They scored 11 tries, with hat-tricks from Drew Stephens and Tom Callow, plus nine conversions from man of the match Jake Hillman.
The Cardiff side dominated from the kick-off, their speed and accurate passing, particularly from stand-off Hillman, proving too much for their opponents.
Callum Baldwin opening the scoring with a try after just four minutes which Hillman converted.
Glanaf then had to work hard in defence as Howard looked to get back into the game and managed to force a goal line drop out.
But they let the kick bounce into touch and this was as near as they got to scoring in the first half as Glantaf took control.
Tries from Harri Ryan, Callow, and Stephens, all converted by Hillman, put them 30-0 up at half-time.
Baldwin claimed his second touchdown immediately after the break with a powerful burst from short range and when Callow completed his hat-trick with two tries in three minutes to put his side 46-0 ahead there was no way back for Howard.
However they kept battling away and Amolack Sahota charged over from a tap penalty for their only try which Jordan Bond converted.
But Glantaf, despite being down to 11 in the final minutes, finished with a flourish.
Stephens completed his hat-trick before Karlin Claridge touched down and Ioan Davies wrapped things with a try and conversion.
