Ysgol Y Gwyndu from Caerphilly are through to the Welsh Semi Finals of the Champions Schools competition having seen off St Joseph's (Newport) and Monmouth Comprehensive School in emphatic style.
The first game of the day saw Y Gwyndy taking on hosts Monmouth. It was a close affair but Y Gwyndu just pipped it outscoring Monmouth by four tries to one.
Game two saw Y Gwyndy stay on and play against St Josephs. Again this was a close game with Y Gwyndy needing to win to top the group and automatically book their place in the semifinal. They did just that winning four tries to two.
The last game of the afternoon saw Monmouth coming back on to play St Josephs in the wooden spoon play off. Some strong running from both sides saw both sets of forwards getting in on the action, however, St Joseph's pipped the win, running in four tries to Monmouth's two.
WRL development officer Idris Evans said: "It was a really good afternoon of rugby league and there was some excellent attacking play on display. Well done to all the players and especially Y Gwyndy who progress to play against St John's from Aberdare in the semi-final in the new year."
